In Ukraine, the month of April is a symbol of French cultural and artistic diversity.
For the past eight years UkrSibbank BNP Paribas Group has invited Ukrainians to take part in the French Spring and get to know French culture.
This year’s festival is being held under the motto “Spring of Ideas.” The program is jam-packed with unforgettable entertaining events that will be hosted in nine cities of Ukraine: Lviv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, Rivne, and, of course, Kyiv.

In April Ukraine always welcomes French art, exciting meetings, exhibitions, and warm feelings. This year was no exception with the 10th French Spring Festival, Printemps français. This year’s tenth festival was jam-packed with unique French projects, as well as joint Ukrainian and French chef-d’oeuvres. Traditionally, the festival’s entertaining and artistic events have traved to 6 Ukrainian cities: Kyiv, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Lviv, Odesa, and Dnipropetrovsk.
For 7 years in a row UkrSibbank BNP Paribas Group has been a sponsor of the French Spring Festival. This April the Bank supported French Film Panorama which abounds in entertaining and dazzling movies.
The festival kicked off on April 2 in Kyiv, at the Hryshko National Botanic Garden, with an open-air spectacular show The Flames (Flammes) by the French La Machinecompany. The show was crowned by a breathtaking grand fireworks display.
Special guest of the 2013 French Spring Festival is Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, a renowned playwright, whose famous Little Marital Crimes (Petits crimes conjugaux) staged by the French Roseau theatre. Numerous Ukrainian theatres hosted Cock’s cry(Cri du coq) brought by the French pantomime artistic company and Tiger, tiger, burning bright modern dance show.
French Movies Panorama offered a stunning premiere Möbius, a series of Spies (Espion(s)) movies, George Mélièscine-concert along with lots of other splendid films in store. Moreover, the festival programme featured the famous visual arts projects: Jacques Chapiro’s paintings exhibition in the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kyiv, photography exhibition form the world-known AirFrance collection, street art expositions, and the artistic project dedicated to the centenary of Malevich’s BlackSquare.
For the sixth consecutive year UkrSibbank BNP Paribas Group, the bank for a changing world, was presented at the French Spring festival. Various events highlighting the latest trends in French cultural life — in the world of theater, cinema, circus, fine arts, literature and music — were conducted at six major cities in Ukraine: Kyiv, Donetsk, Lviv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv.
The festival started with the grand opening in Sofia Square in Kyiv at 8:30 p.m. on April 4. The arrival of the French Spring was heralded by extraordinary musicians performing the “Wild Bellmen” extravaganza, which were floating in the sky, delighting thousands of spectators with the pure melody of chiming bells.
Rousing rhythms, innovative music and a spectacular pyrotechnics show were the final presents of the French Spring 2011 in Ukraine. Six drummers pulled almost 40,000 spectators to Spivoche Pole (Singing Field) for a memorable goodbye party.
The show was put on by the Drumming Troopers, an international street show company. For over 15 years the group has been touring around the globe, demonstrating their riveting art, a refreshing blend of rhythms, music and jaw-dropping pyrotechnic effects.
The show was dedicated to Chornobyl disaster. Rimon Grabriel, director of the show, says the idea behind this performance is as follows: “Chornobyl, or how to switch from memories of the absurd catastrophe to the anthem of life, which is made of shrieks, drums, sparks and explosives”.
This spring, the festival of cultural events was full of surprises and sure to satisfy the tastes of connoisseurs with its eventfulness and unique performance. The opening of French Spring festival took place on April 9 on St. Sophia Square in Kyiv and amazed the audience with an astonishing street performance – “The Square of Angels”.
The program of the French Spring festival featured many various events amongst which there are: the prerelease show festival, the night of short films, the modern dance performance “Our Golden Nets” and modern circus show “Ivre d'équilibre”.
The French Spring was given a special flavor by the retrospective show of films starring Juliette Binoche and opening of exhibition devoted to this famous cinema actress.
