In recent years, the fight against plastic has become a major environmental and social issue. In 2017, the world’s total output of plastics stood at

348 million tons
, having increased by a factor of 3.5 in less than 30 years. Between 1950 and 2015, this production generated

6.3 billion tons
of plastic waste. Since only 9% was recycled and 12% incinerated, that means 79% was disposed of in landfills or dumped into the natural environment, especially into the oceans. This worrisome realization led Craig Leeson, an ardent advocate for the protection of oceans, to make the film “A Plastic Ocean”.

The fight against plastic is an important environmental and social issue. In 2017 alone, the total volume of plastic production in the world amounted to 348 million tons. According to scientists, from 1950 to 2015, 8.3 billion tons of plastic were produced, 6.3 billion tons of which are still garbage. After all, only 9% was recycled, 12% was incinerated, which means that 79% was disposed of in landfills or dumped in the environment, especially in the ocean. We can see it in the documentary “A Plastic Ocean” by Craig Leeson — Global Sustainability Ambassador of BNP Paribas.
